Another night …. another chase
Aurora likes to show up during full moon, rain, strong winds, heavy clouds or all four conditions at once. All these conditions are unfavourable to take any decent shots of an Aurora.
There was an expectation of a very strong Aurora that night. But all my weather apps predicted clouds all over Victoria except a very small window at this particular spot. So I took a risk and went to this lake just in case there was a small break in the clouds. And I’m really glad that I did. When the darkness of the night came so did the Aurora with all her glory and her beautiful colours.
I captured Aurora with the Milky Way Core rising during the waxing of the crescent Moon behind me which lit up this beautiful dead tree and driftwood in the background at Lake Wellington. I love how the Aurora lights are reflected in the calm waters of the lake. The Aurora reached KP8 rate, with -2355nT expansion that night! Truly an unforgettable night!
